Each year 14 October is celebrated as a special day to recognize the contribution of the standards organizations and the people behind them. In 2009, the key topic is climate change thus placing special focus on environmental protection. Politicians, business people and consumers are encouraged to think once more about the risks to the environment incurred by most of out activities.

     The European Union has a leading role in the efforts to mitigate the effects of pollution in the long run. This political priority emphasizes once again the role of Environmental Management Systems. In Bulgaria , institutional support for compliance with ISO 14001 is provided by the EY BAS Programme.
